Notes on the piece

Lullaby for a Beluga Whale is a story about the innocent past, a simple childhood, untainted by worries. When I was a small child, I had a favorite stuffed animal, a beluga whale, named shockingly: Beluga, which this piece is named for. I look upon my childhood memories, many of them with a cameo by Beluga, with a mix of fondness and sadness. This is characterized by the bittersweet melody repeated throughout the piece. The piece is gentle, like the rocking of a cradle, and hushed. It is a message that the past, and past innocence may be gone, but as most lullabies say, everything is going to be alright.
